Capri, a stunning island in the Western Mediterranean, a romantic hideaway we all dream of. Ancient history, Italian charm, turquoise sea and spectacular scenery make this island a must-stop when planning your Mediterranean cruise. Its history dates back to ancient times, as far back as the Bronze age.
It has been a summer resort in ancient times too, and perhaps Tiberius, the ruler of Roman empire, was the one who made it the most famous.
Tiberius moved there and built numerous palaces on the island, and loved to swim in the Blue Grotto (the Blue Cave) in the morning, but still managed to find time to rule the empire until his death.

Port of Capri Island
It has been a home to numerous writers and celebrities, who helped establish it as the hot spot if you wanted to be a part of the “in” crowd.

However, celebrities and tourist aside, the island has some truly extraordinary attractions, such as the remains of ancient villas, or the town of Anacapri, or the mountain of Monte Solaro that can be reached by a funicular and boasting spectacular views of the island.

In addition, there is a number of grottoes, or caves, the most famous being the Blue Grotto where you can take a small boat cruise inside and float in awe of the unbelievable turquoise water.
Then there are the spectacular Faraglioni, the rocks rising high from the sea, a true landmark of Capri.

The sea has created a natural passage through the rocks over millions of years, and local ships whiz through the passage at bone-chilling speed! 🙂

Villa San Michele was discovered and rebuilt by a Swedish Physician, Axel Munthe.
Dr. Munthe wrote a fantastic book giving a great insight into his adventure and the life of the island at the turn of the 20th century.

The island is famous for its specific “feel”, which combines an easy going, very relaxed lifestyle, with the fact that wherever you look you will be stunned by what you see – be it cloud-covered mountain-tops, steep cliffs, ancient villas or that romantic feeling that is constantly in the air.
