Gocek nestles at the deepest point of the Fethiye Gulf, at the foot of the pine clad mountains looking over the 12 islands of the bay. It is at the northern end of the gulf known as Skopea Limani. A vacation in this port town is distinctly historic in character, as it is a region steeped in the past. Its history is evident all around you, with ruins and tombs almost wherever you turn.
However, in contrast to all the history, this port town is becoming a famous yachting harbor both in Turkey and in the world.
It boasts six marinas and the Belediye quay, and it is the base for charter and bare boat, gullet and motor yacht agencies.
A Little Bit of History
The historical name of Gocek is Kalimche and there are rock tombs outside the village that date back two thousand years.
Crystal clear Mediterranean Sea, Gocek
The area has ruins from many cultures, which indicate that it has been home to people from various cultures and civilizations.
One of these ruins is called Batik Hamam or, as it is also known, Cleopatra’s Hamam. In the Ottoman period, the harbor was used by the merchant ships to load and ship chromium ore.
A legend says that Icarus landed in the sea near Gocek, after his escape from the tower where he was imprisoned.
Port of Gocek
The week-long Regatta Festival is celebrated here, every May. This is a prestigious event, when people from all over the world come to this port town to take part in it.
There are many art and craft shops here selling local handicrafts, and you can also buy designer bags and clothing.
